This has a very cutesy style, a throwback to Super Mario Bros, with a very retro feel but with more fluid animation than any 2D platformer I've ever laid eyes on. The art direction is phenomenally well executed and very aesthetically pleasing, much like that of Angry Birds or any of the 2D apps on the market today. With such an appealing style, a wonderfully simple character that is also charming and appealing to younger players as well as adults and add the combination of fluid animation in the mix and I don't see how this game wouldn't sell on the itunes and Android market, easily. Well done on this, excellent job, I know I'll want to download a copy to my iphone if you decide to market it to itunes.
An excellent exercise in platform game development I would love to play in full one day. I have but one suggestion that may benefit the awareness and advertising of your game, and that is through taking advantage of something called "native resolution".
The video currently on display atop your website at: [link] in comparison to the demo here, has a blurry appearance, resulting from the video source being output to FLV for the player, (as YouTube still uses) but also possibly from the source video's dimensions not matching height/width. To have the pixel-art and detail shine through as it does in your demo would be through optimizing the source video's codec/resolution, assuring a more faithful portrayal of the original content. The video on YouTube, at least viewed in HD, seems to display better quality.
All in all, I like the ideas in this game (namely Burger Visc-ount) and hope this project can see completion. I've always been a sucker for platformers. and tacos.
I've never seen a pseudo-3d effect like this before.
I found something odd, though. If you change direction quickly while running, he instantly starts running in the opposite direction without slowing down first. This doesn't feel right as he takes much longer to reach his max speed. I guess that this is something that would be polished in a later version?
